Eurocoms design, install and maintain Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON) within the UK and are currently involved in a major project in the North of England. Our inhouse design and installation teams work closely with our partners to provide unrivalled fibre based broadband.
What is GPON?
As stated above, GPON is short for Gigabit Passive Optical Network. This system relies solely on fibre optic cabling to deliver video, data and voice signals to hundreds of end users on a single fibre optic strand.
One way of providing hyperspeed connectivity to your property is through GPON, which is a point-to-multipoint access network. Its main characteristic is the use of passive splitters in the fibre distribution network, enabling one single feeding fibre strand from the provider to serve multiple users.
GPON has a downstream capacity of 2.488 Gb/s and an upstream capacity of 1.244 Gbp/s that is shared among users. Encryption is used to keep each user’s data secured and private from other users.
Eurocoms are partnered with Dasan Zhone (DZS), one of the leading fibre gateway platforms for any FTTx deployment. DZS remain at the forefront of technology innovation today, with large-scale global deployments of its high-capacity FTTx multi-service systems designed to provide high performance and cost-effective solutions for the operator’s bandwidth requirements.
DZS Smart Gateway platforms provide unprecedented PON port options supporting NG-PON2/XGS-PON/GPON, EPON/10EPON and Active Ethernet for both residential and business access.
